Waterstones Says

Perfect reading for fans of Stephen King and Stranger Things, this pulsating coming-of-age horror from the pen of the Nordic crime maestro sees a small-town outcast pursue the otherworldly disappearance of his classmate.

In the wake of his parents' tragic deaths fourteen-year-old Richard Elauved has been sent to live with his aunt and uncle in the remote town of Ballantyne.

Richard quickly earns a reputation as an outcast, and when a classmate named Tom goes missing, no one believes him when he says the telephone booth out by the edge of the woods sucked Tom into the receiver like something out of a horror movie.

No one, that is, except the enigmatic Karen, who encourages Richard to pursue clues the police refuse to investigate. He traces the number to an abandoned house in the woods. There he catches a glimpse of a terrifying face in the window. And then the voices start.
When another classmate disappears, Richard grapples with the dark magic that's possessing Ballantyne to try and find them before its too late...

MEDIA REVIEWS

Nesbø doesn't spend any time fiddling about, building up, or misdirecting. In The Night House, the horror begins immediately. And it only keeps calling from there. There are lessons to be learned here: who to believe and what to believe in. And how a person can change, when the impossible turns possible and the unimaginable is laid bare. This horror fan loved it - Josh Malerman, best-selling author of Bird Box and Spin a Black Yarn

A beguiling coming-of-age tale that becomes more terrifying as it builds, with plenty of tension and surprises packed into its pages - SUNDAY EXPRESS

“This book feels like Point Horror has grown up.”

This is the type of story I could imagine being recounted by teenagers in school corridors like we used to with the scariest Christopher Pike or R L Stine books.

You follow Richard who is a teenage kid starting out... More

“Clumsy, lazy and not worth the time”

This book was all over the place, if read like YA horror at times and felt like a series of short stories clumsily put together. Really not for me.

This is my first read by Jo Nesbo and it won't be my last. I am a big horror fan and this sounded like my cup of tea. It certainly was! An atmospheric and chilling tale that I couldn't put down. Perfect for... More
