'I first went to New York City with The Jam in 1977. Although I didn't get to see too much of the city, I was there long enough to get a sense of the place and its people, and I think that Ian Snowball and Pete McKenna have been able to capture the sense and spirit - and smell - of the city at that time in their gritty novel The Last Black Angel.
Reading the story brought back memories of being back stage at CBGB's and meeting the clientele, who were mostly tough looking New York Punks clad in black biker jackets and ripped denim. I also remember watching one of the Ramones leaping up from the electric radiator, which had been on and he'd sat on and it had burnt into his backside. And I also remember the legendary CBGB's toilets! Rick Buckler
