The underground music scene in New York in the 60's and 70's is a tough place to make your mark, as young English girl Suzie soon discovers. However, by a chance meeting she befriends Patti who introduces Suzie to the weird and wonderful world of life in The Village, with all of its characters and trappings. But Suzie being the adventurous girl that she is dives into the lifestyle and it soon takes a grip on her. The story flips between life in New York in 1967 and 1977 and this serves as the backdrop for Suzie's adventures as she gets pulled into the world of New York's folk and underground music scene of '67 and then the punk of '77 and all the legendary hangouts that the `cool' people frequent and these include a bunch of females known to the locals as the Black Angels and they are a force to be reckoned with.

MEDIA REVIEWS

'I first went to New York City with The Jam in 1977. Although I didn't get to see too much of the city, I was there long enough to get a sense of the place and its people, and I think that Ian Snowball and Pete McKenna have been able to capture the sense and spirit - and smell - of the city at that time in their gritty novel The Last Black Angel.

Reading the story brought back memories of being back stage at CBGB's and meeting the clientele, who were mostly tough looking New York Punks clad in black biker jackets and ripped denim. I also remember watching one of the Ramones leaping up from the electric radiator, which had been on and he'd sat on and it had burnt into his backside. And I also remember the legendary CBGB's toilets! Rick Buckler
