It has been four years since the last "Indiana Factbook" was published. This new edition contains essential information about the State of Indiana its Population, Employment, Industry, Income, Housing, Commuting, Building, Age Trends, Education, and Welfare. There are county profiles based on these categories for each of the 92 counties. County comparisons are easily achieved. Ranks and trends show where a county has been and help the reader see where it might be headed. Maps and graphs provide insights into county highs and lows. Indiana is also compared with its neighbors and the nation via comparative tables and graphs.Facts from the Factbook: Manufacturing generates 32 per cent of Indiana's job earnings. The state ranks 8th in the nation in earnings from the production of nondurable goods. Indiana ranks high (13th) in permit filing for single family homes; this is in a state where 70 per cent of Hoosiers are homeowners. Of Indiana's 92 counties, 43 have a population density of fewer than 80 people per square mile. Population growth of 2.6 per cent or more was experienced by most Indiana counties in the 1990s. But which counties aren't growing? Income increased in the majority of Indiana's counties (64) by at least 12.5 per cent during the latest ten year period.
