Formed in 1965 in typically cavalier fashion -- in a phone box on the way to a recording of sixties TV show Ready Steady Go -- Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate records became the quintessential sixties record label: irreverent, progressive, drug-fuelled, often to be found operating on the wrong side of the law, and home to a bunch of rising stars who would go on to dominate rock and pop well into the seventies. It is also commonly seen as the first ever independent label, and reflected the taste of its outrageous, extravagant but ruthlessley commerical founder: Rod Stewart and the Small Faces sat alongside Nico, John Mayall, Cat Stevens, Jimmy Page and Fleetwood Mac. Many of the songs were written and produced by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Featuring interviews with many of the stars and insiders involved, this is significant addition to Loog-Oldham's successful series of autobiographies.
