This collection was first published in Manipur by the Patriotic Writers' Forum, Imphal in 2010 as a memorial volume to Saroj Nalini Arambam Parratt, and a tribute to her very substantial contribution to the scholarly study of Manipur. A brief obituary is also included by courtesy of the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society, London. This book contains most of the papers and articles which we have written over the past years on aspects of Manipur's history and culture. Collections of this kind can be somewhat repetitive, especially when (as with many of the papers included here) the original audiences and readers had very limited knowledge of Manipur. However, I hope that their wider availability may make a modest contribution to the understanding of a region which has been very little researched by Western scholars since the beginning of the last century. Several of these papers have appeared previously in journals, and the original publications have been acknowledged where appropriate.
