At the beginning of the new millennium, the EU and its neighbours are faced with new challenges that shape their mutual relations. After the biggest enlargement, and pending the outcome of the most radical 'constitutional' revision in its history, the EU will have to re-examine its external relations with its neighbours. This book analyses the impact of enlargement, and the agreement on the text of the Constitutional Treaty, on both the external relations of the EU and its internal organisation. Chapters devoted to specific countries or regional groups of countries each begin with an overview of the legal documents and institutional framework for the relationship, and contain: a brief historical and political account of relations; a general legal analysis of relations; an analysis of some specific legal issues characterizing the nature of the relations with the EU; and some remarks on the impact of enlargement on the relationship.

MEDIA REVIEWS
'This book will be of great use to both academics and practitioners; it gives a complete overview and appraisal of the relationships that the EU has established with its neighbours. It is unparalleled on the market due to both the breadth and the depth of the material covered, and will without doubt serve as a fundamental reference for future work in this area. The book is comprehensively edited by two experts with many years of experience in the area ... The volume is an enjoyable and very informative read with a clearly structured format that takes the reader logically through this complex topic.' Common Market Law Review
'The comprehensive scope of this collection of essays is one of its strengths: rather than being confined to the EU's partners in the context of the European Neighbourhood Policy, it covers all its neighbours. Another strength is its content: it is a host of information usefully brought together and succinctly presented. The book presents succinctly the multi-dimensional nature of the EU's approach to its neighbours and sets out the different challenges which the Union must meet in order to develop an effective and coherent approach. All in all, this is a useful book for any lawyer interested in the EU's external relations.' European Public Law
'... a very useful handbook which has already become an authoritative source for this complex area of law for scholars, postgraduate students as well as officials in the European Union and its neighbouring countries.' European Law Review
