'The Baronet's 2nd Son' by George F. C. McL. Power is an unusual story about a man's fascinating life and the ups and downs he encountered struggling to overcome a serious illness. It vivdly shows the antiquated state of our Army and RAF before the war. A lifelong yachtsman it traces his life from an early age and gives an insight into someone who is mad about boats, following his occupations while on three years' sick leave and life as the captain of a sailing trawler at the age of 21. A member of the original Admiralty Ferry Crew he helped to deliver various boats to the services, on one occasion from the United States, whilst still on Sick Leave. He, being unable to follow in his Father's footsteps in Parliament, devoted his life to Local Government affairs and served on numerous bodies, and Governorships of Schools, Hospital Groups and the Territorial Army Committee. He founded the Sea Rescue Service later to become the Royal National Lifeboat Institute Inshore Rescue Service. Being a Lloyds name he did not survive well and now lives in a single-roomed gardener's cottage at his youngest Daughter's house. A great lover of the sea, he is now on his fiftieth boat.
