Waterstones Says

The debut novel from the author of The Sober Diaries beautifully balances humour with heart-break, and sincerity with mischief. The Authenticity Project is a warm and uplifting story about friendship, the importance of human connection and the power of truth.

A story about connection, community, and the kindness of strangers.

Six strangers with one universal thing in common: their lives aren't always what they make them out to be.

What would happen if they told the truth instead?

Julian Jessop is tired of hiding the deep loneliness he feels. So he begins The Authenticity Project - a small green notebook containing the truth about his life.

Leaving the notebook on a table in his friendly neighbourhood cafe, Julian never expects Monica, the owner, to track him down after finding it. Or that she'll be inspired to write down her own story.

Little do they realize that such small acts of honesty hold the power to impact all those who discover the notebook and change their lives completely.

“Life affirming”

What a superb book. I started it this morning and finished it around midnight. I put it down reluctantly to get quick meals and walk my dog. I know it will feature high in the lists of the best novels of 2020.

“Loved it.”

I loved this book. What a great idea. That little green book . . . I would have liked more, but as it was, I loved how Pooley brought together a small group of people who became friends. There's not much else I... More
