This book is a large and comprehensive dictionary providing SerboCroatian equivalents of the English lexicon, including nearly 60,000 English headwords and 100,000 phrases, idioms, and collocations. It shows the accents of all headwords and forms. The vocabulary represents the speech of educated speakers and of the daily press. The dictionary pays special attention to the differences between the Eastern variety of SerboCroatian (with Belgrade as its centre) and the Western variety (with Zagreb as its centre). The Bosnian variety (with Sarajevo as its centre) shares features of other varieties. The English defining vocabulary clearly distinguishes between American and British English. This edition includes a large number of neologisms, including essential computer terms. The dictionary is the best available guide for speakers of SerboCroatian who wish to learn to express themselves in correct, idiomatic English, and for speakers of English who are learning SerboCroatian at any level.

' ... an invaluable contribution ... It is in fact the first up-to-date lexicon of standard contemporary Serbo-Croat with English glosses provided by native English speakers ... important scientific and technical terms are included ... The dictionary provides an exceptionally thorough account of the contemporary language with meticulous attention to the provsion of the fullest possible morphological information and illustration of usage. It includes a very detailed introduction, describing fully the treatment of the entries and providing extensive grammatical information in a clear, concise form.' Slavonic and East European Review
'It is a pleasure to express the judgment that this work is a model of lexicographic excellence.' Library Journal
'The need for a good SerboCroatian-English dictionary on our market (and on the world market) is acute ... All the more welcome is the appearance of Professor Benson's dictionary; it is extensive in scope, contains a large number of entries and shades of meaning, and, in addition, has been prepared with extreme care.' Politika (Belgrade: translated from the SerboCroatian)
' ... excellent work ... unique in its field.' American Translators Association Chronicle
"The Benson dictionaries....have long been recognized as outstanding achievements in the field of bilingual Slavic lexicography....they accomplished the nearly impossible task of codifying two languages, each of which has significant variants." William W. Derbyshire, Slavic and East European Journal
