An uplifting, stunningly beautiful book about optimism in the darkest of places.

A girl and her companion fox travel together from a place of loss and despair, through uncertain times, towards the hope of colour, light and life. Along the way, they find friends to guide and support them. Together, they build a glorious future and discover there is a way out of the darkness, into the light of the rainbow. A book with immense hope at its heart, this is a positive message for anyone who’s ever gone through a tough time.

MEDIA REVIEWS
A stylish picture book about how there is always a way out of darkness. The story is a lyrical ode to optimism, resilience and friendship, illuminated by Litchfield’s dazzling textured art. Hope is also invoked in Rain Before Rainbows by Smriti Halls and David Litchfield. First released as a free e book, this dreamlike vision of a girl and fox travelling from darkness and difficulty to a blaze of morning light offers, with its few well-chosen words and heart-lifting illustrations, a moving message of perseverance and eventual joy. This book is a path from darkness and sorrow towards the wonder of the light of hope. Whether the answer to the last few weeks, year or a hard day, I found my heart softening and opening as I soaked in the message of this book. David Litchfield’s illustrations feel like being enveloped in warmth. David Litchfield's dramatic or warm illustrations are lovely. The rhyming text and the detailed pictures make this an attractive book for young children.
