Researcherscontinuetoreportthatbaseratesarestill largelybeingignored(Duncan Gouvier,Hayes,&Smiroldo,1998). It isbecauseofthisgapintheliteraturethatthecurrentbookPractitioner'sGuideto SymptomBaseRatesintheGeneralPopulationandthepreviousbookPractitioner's GuidetoSymptomBaseRatesinClinicalNeuropsychology(McCaVreyetal. 2003) werecreated. Ifthediagnosticaccuracyofourclinicaldecision-makingprocessand ourtestinginstrumentsaretobeestimated,wemustcalculatethebaseratesofthe symptoms,disorders,anddiseasesweassessforonaregularbasis. Itishopedthatthepresentbookwillaidneuropsychologicalpractitionersand otherhealthcareprofessionalsintheevaluationofthepresentingcomplaintsoftheir patients.
