This beautifully illustrated book describes a friendship which lasted for half a century. The first phase culminates in Parade and their collaboration with Sergei Diaghilev on Les Ballets Russes. During the second phase, Cocteau wavers between collaboration with and resistance to the Germans who are occupying Paris and Picasso completely withdraws from public life. The post-war years, the third phase of their friendship, is marred by both glory and envy, but also takes on an age-induced relaxed cordiality.
