Neural engineering is an emerging interdisciplinary field that studies the brain and nervous system and applies this knowledge in many ways. It encompasses such areas as replacing or restoring lost sensory and motor abilities, defining the organizing principles and underlying mechanisms of neural systems, neurorobotics, neuroelectronics, brain imaging and cognitive neuroscience. This book focuses on the design of multielectrode arrays to study how the neurons of humans and animals encode stimuli. It also provides an evaluation of functional changes in neural networks after stroke and spinal cord injuries, and improvements of therapeutic applications using the neural prosthesis.
