BOOKLIST -- Werewolves Julie and Selena and centaur
Chet, along with Chet's significant other, Manuel, go to a fraternity party in
which they enter a fairy circle. When some of their friends drink the fairies'
beverages, they are stuck within the circle until they are able to meet the
fairies' demands. In this second volume in a series, we continue to see Julie
and Selena's relationship evolve, going through the typical ups and downs of
young love, although the relationship is never portrayed as angsty. The
characters, who mainly consist of imaginary and mythological creatures,
refreshingly represent a range of cultures as well as sexual and gender
orientations. To match the whimsical tone, the illustrations are fanciful in
muted pastels, with thin lines and plenty of detail. While the main story arc is
resolved at the end of the volume, there is an unresolved feeling that will have
dedicated readers waiting for volume three. In the meantime, despite the
relative youth of the characters, point those eagerly awaiting Julie and
Selena's next chapter to Whitney Gardner's Fake Blood.
