Many educational leadership programs have used case studies for years, but what separates those in Managing Marginal School Employees from the pack are that they are: 1) more inclusive of all employees with true-to-life situations and 2) grounded in ELCC standards that drive the acquisition of knowledge, dispositions, and performance skills required for exemplary leadership so needed in this era of accountability. This book is a must for any professional library shelf in today's educational leadership programs! -- Shelly Albritton, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Graduate School of Management, Leadership and Administration at the University of Central Arkansas
Finally a realistic and on-target book to help prepare educational leaders! There is an excellent variety of situations provided in this book. -- Julie Janssen, principal, St. Petersburg (Fla.) High School
The fictionalized cases guide readers through the process of analyzing a situation, identifying possible courses of action, and weighing the potential consequences of each. * Reference and Research Book News *
The book makes a worthy attempt to enrich the development of aspiring and early career school leaders who will be facing tough personnel problems throughout their careers. * School Administrator, June 2007 *
This is an outstanding book for future school leaders as they matriculate through their program of study. What excited me the most...is that it is loaded with numerous realistic problems and issues that school leaders will have to confront daily. I found both the stated 'case questions' and accompanying 'related activities' to be most thoughtful and reflective opportunities for pre-service leaders to explore issues that are correlated with the existing national standards for educational leaders. Bravo to the authors for developing this quality and practical resource for students and current practitioners. -- Jack Klotz, associate professor of school management, leadership, and administration at the University of Central Arkansas
