World War 2. October 1939 18-year-old Stuart, farming in Kenya, is recruited to carry a secret packet from Nairobi to London. On the way he escapes death at the hand of a Nazi - unaided learns to fly a 'plane' - 'suffers' the attention of ardent women - and endures enemy action at sea. As if that wasn't enough, as an RAF bomber pilot he has not only to cope with a dangerous enemy, but two ballet dancers: One, a feisty red=head, leopard like goes headlong at her prey. The other, cool, bides her time. Rone Jameson has written another exciting fast moving story; the first part of which, set during WW2 tells of the life of a young pilot, both in the air and in war-torn London. Flying at night in the face of danger, the immediacy of death and the intense reaction to life and love are superbly conveyed. Then in Kenya, his land of birth, he responds to a different kind of danger, tempered by a passionate love affair. Jameson's lucid and often lyrical prose portrays wonderfully the rich scenery and veried life of Kenya. An excellent read not to be missed!
