Jack Bloggs is a family man at heart, but unexpected opportunities to work as an odd job man cause him to travel to different places and meet new and interesting people. He enjoys the challenge of each new job and values his independence, although he often gets so involved with his work that he forgets about his family. Things are going well for Jack until he has a nasty accident and ends up in hospital with a badly broken leg. This puts a stop to his 'wheeling and dealing' and, with Christmas coming up, Jack is forced to rely on other people for help. As he slowly returns to good health, he begins to realise that he needs to change his habits and attitudes and try to be a better more thoughtful person. But it's not as easy as it sounds, as old habits die hard and a leopard cannot easily change its spots - Michael Arkinstall is a retired Primary School Headmaster whose witty and informative stories have delighted hundreds of children over more than thirty years. His illustrator Annie Turner is one of his former pupils.
