'Joyfully entertaining. Full of warmth, wisdom and affectionate delight in the wonder and absurdity of being human.' Observer

'Funny, honest and heart-warming.' Matt Haig

What better way to understand ourselves than through the eyes of comedians - those who professionally examine our quirks on stage daily? In this touching and witty book, award-winning presenter and comic Robin Ince uses the life of the stand-up as a way of exploring some of the biggest questions we all face. Where does anxiety come from? How do we overcome imposter syndrome? What is the key to creativity? How can we deal with grief?

Informed by personal insights from Robin as well as interviews with some of the world's top comedians, neuroscientists and psychologists, this is a hilarious and often moving primer to the mind. But it is also a powerful call to embrace the full breadth of our inner experience - no matter how strange we worry it may be!

Comedian and science presenter Robin Ince joins us to talk about his new book, I’m a Joke and So Are You, an investigation of the human condition that blends memoir, wit and popular science. As a connoisseur of comedy, Robin has spent decades mining our eccentricities to create gags – and watching other strange individuals do the same. And for years on The Infinite Monkey Cage he has sought – sometimes in vain – to understand the world around us. In this book, he unites these pursuits to examine the human condition through the prism of humour.

“not my usual read”

It was my dad who leant me this book, after I asked him what he was laughing at. Although I may only be a few chapters in I am already loving it. Now I will be the first to admit that had I passed it on the shelf in a... More

“Man in Cardigan Herds Neurological Cats”

This is a warm and beautiful book.
It’s not cliched or saccharin. There are no clowns tears.
Through his interviews, anecdotes and his own generous disclosures, Robin is mining for authenticity amongst a fizz of... More

“Fun for all the family.”

The best book I've bought with the words fMRI, soliloquy, bowels, The Rats, paedophile and Ricky Gervais in it.

You'll have to read it to find out which, if any, of those are on the same page.

Nice font too.
