Harry Bunn was a lad from Birmingham who was still at school when World War II broke out. Harry worked for his father, who ran a barber's shop; sweeping the floor and preparing shaves and being very grateful for any tips as his mother took his wages for upkeep! At the earliest opportunity, Harry joined the Home Guard and on his 18th birthday he joined the army. Harry's enthusiasm and hard work through his basic training gave him the choice of where to serve. He had always wanted to see the Scottish Highlands, loved bagpipe music, and so found himself posted to the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). This light infantry regiment, unencumbered by heavy equipment, specialised in mountain warfare and Harry became a survivalist during all the winter extremes the challenging landscape of the Highlands could throw at him. He was then sent to Holland, by contrast a very flat country, to fight in the various conflict zones. Harry survived the war and led an industrious life with his sweetheart Diana and their two children, Clive and Sheila. However, the war had left its scars and continued to have an influence over his life right up until his death.'
