Part One of this volume presents the proceedings of the first national conference for Greek, held in london in 1984. In Part two a research paper is published for the first time. This is an MA dissertation, of the University of London by Despo Georgiou, a second generation Greek Cypriot born and brought up in London. It was presented at the Greek Language Research Group (GLRG) Seminar 3 in Summer 1990. As an oral testimony of the thoughts and actions of second generation Greek speakers in Britain, it has a place in a series of publications specializing on Greek outside Greece. The attempt to bring the two events together in one volume is a conscious effort to give voice to the younger generations of Greek speakers to respond to what others have been planning and doing for them or in their name before. Are they aware of all issues involved in bringing up bicultural children in contemporary multicultural and multilingual Britain? Part Three consists of an annotated bibliography of published and unpublished work on Cypriots in Britain.
