Many dream of a quiet, idyllic life in southern France but for this family their momentous move becomes a litany of disasters. From the moment they leave England's shores, things go very pear-shaped. They find themselves in an old mill house, deep in Cathar country where the very landscape was once stained with bloody battles. Locals are much more friendly and welcome the unassuming family warmly, but are curious. Three months after moving, the money runs out and it is hard to generate income in such a rural part of France. Somehow, however, the hiatus is filled with a rich experience that no amount of wealth could buy. From the antics of local artists, strange protocols and customs, a way of life evolves that could never have been predicted. They are all on a journey of self-discovery and come out seemingly unscathed and none the worse for their French encounter.
