How do the French manage to raise well-behaved children and have a life! Who hasn't noticed how well-behaved French children are - compared to our own? - How come French babies sleep through the night? - Why do French children happily eat what is put in front of them? - How can French mums chat to their friends while their children play quietly? - Why are French mums more likely to be seen in skinny jeans than tracksuit bottoms? Pamela Druckerman, who lives in Paris with three young children, has had years of observing her French friends and neighbours, and with wit and style, has written a memoir that is ideally placed to teach us the basics of parenting a la francaise.

“Really worth the read”

I enjoyed Pamela's funny view on parenthood. Some French parenting tips will be very useful, unfortunately, we have missed the boat on many others. Of most interest were the tactics employed that I recognised in... More

“Child rearing the French way”

I am not sure if a book on child rearing is supposed to make you laugh out loud, but this one did.

Druckerman writes with rare wit and insight as an American raising children in Paris in the French way. She is... More

“The thing is... French children DO throw food, and they misbehave and talk back too !”

Unfortunately the premise of the book is out of step with the reality of most of France - urban and rural.
I'm not sure which mythical part of France the author lives in.
Or maybe it's a class thing...... More
