Leprechauns may be harmless little creatures but they're also very fond of making mischief - as brother and sister Jake and Beth on holiday from America soon find out. When their family visits a farm in Ireland they meet Finbar, a fun loving leprechaun. He decides to tag along as they continue their holiday. They sail to Wales and visit all the famous sights the children's mother had told them of. One of the Pont Readalone series aimed at readers aged 8+, this is the story of a mischievous leprechaun. Finbar lives with his young friend Annie. When she leaves the farm, Finbar makes friends with two American children, Beth and Jake, who are visiting Ireland on their way to Wales with their parents. Finbar decides to join them, and the journey is made very adventurous indeed because of Finbars sense of mischief. The author stresses at the beginning of the story that leprechauns cannot be seen by adults. With Finbar getting into all sorts of trouble, mostly accomplished with his magic whistle, the children find their visit to Wales quite interesting. The family explores Tenby, Pembroke Castle, St Fagans Museum and Oakwood Park, and everywhere they go Finbar thinks of something exciting to do. This is a funny story which young readers will enjoy, especially if they have been to some of the tourist attractions that Beth and Jake visit. Petra Browns black and white illustrations are lively and humorous.
