This text on the vegetation types of Southern Ecuador was first published in two volumes. The first came out in 1948 and was an account of the flora and vegatation types; the second volume was an enumeration of the specimens kept in Herbarium Loja and collected by the author himself. This collection constitutes an historical documentation of the plants growing in Southern Ecuador. It offers a comprehensive introduction to the plant life and plant communities of Southern Ecuador. The new edition has come to light as part of a research collaboration between the Universidad Nacional de Loja and the University of Aarhus. It includes a complete index to the vernacular names, and is now bound into one volume.
