This volume catalogues the complete works of this "Grandfather of American Science Fiction". The collection is based on materials donated in 1975 to the University of Louisville to commemorate the centennial of Burroughs' birth. It includes all 84 stories in their original published form, and some 20,000 books, periodicals, films, letters, translations, reprints and works of art. George T.McWhorter, curator of the collection, documents these works, featuring the Tarzan series, Burroughs' most enduring and popular creation, as well as the Mars, Venus, Pellucider, Western and miscellaneous series. A bibliographic overview identifies each series with background material as well as a chronological listing of works. An illustrated catalogue of all the works in the collection follows and comprises the major portion of the text. A reference section completes the work which aims to serve as both a valuable guide to an extensive collection and a tribute to the fruits of Burroughs' imagination.
