He put forward the architectural design theory of Land-based Rationalism and has published many academic papers and a number of monographs. He has been honoured with the highest recognition of achievement in China's building industry, the Liang Sicheng Architecture Award as well as being conferred a French Legion of Honour Medal in 2003. In 2011 he was awarded the title of Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
