"Creating Change" promotes learner-centred experiential and democratic educational methodologies using the outcomes based model, which underpins the National Curriculum and has assessment processes structured into the learning programmes. The book gives a basic introduction to first-time arts and culture teachers on visual arts activities. This is done through case studies where a particular technique or media has been used in a relevant context. This makes up module one. Artwork featured includes examples of senior phase learners' works as well as photos of learners and educators in the classroom and participating in trialing processes. The themes explored in the book are relevant to Senior Phase learners and are presented through guided modules: clothing and identity; change, transformation and rites of passage; body awareness, boundaries and the issue of HIV and AIDS (these make up modules two, three and four). "Creating Change" provides a range of useful models for assessment and illustrates a participatory learner-centred approach to teaching.
