The brick, tile and fireclay industries played a fundamental role in the development of the British economy in the 19th and 20th centuries. This volume contains a summary of the Scottish Industrial Archaeology Survey of the factories that comprised the three industries. It was carried out at a time of crisis in the heavy ceramics industry when demolition and clearance rapidly followed the closure of most factories.
