"Alert & Oriented in Microbiology" was developed as a concise and easy way to learn microbiology. This book is organized into five sections. The first four outline specific types of organisms (Bacteria, Viruses, Fungi and Parasites), with each medically important pathogen presented in an easy to scan table with all of the important facts. Each table is no more than one or two pages for high-yield, quick review of the material. Section five consists of cross references to tie each of the sections together. Features to complement the high-yield format of the book include: Every organism is presented in a concise table format for quick and easy digestion of information; introductory pages and summary charts; glossary and index for easy navigation of topics; mnemonics to aid in memorization and comprehension; wide margins and blank pages for note taking; and, an art program consisting of figures and algorithms to help understand difficult concepts.'This format is perfect for my students. All of the information is easily accessible and quick to get through. Just what they've been asking for' - Professor Eric Bussear, NOVA Southeastern PA Program. 'This is a great format setup. It's much better than reading a lot of text, and it's organized in an easy to understand manner' - MS3, University of Arizona. 'The two strongest features of this book are: Completeness as a companion guide (covers all bases), and a format that allows for quick review and direct compare/contrast of relavant information' - MS2, University of Texas.'This book was the best purchase I made as a medical student. So much energy during a microbiology class goes into segregating the information and placing it into categories. Topf and Faubel take care of that in an easy-to-read format so that the reader could focus on learning it. The book is essentially written in a chart format. There is also plenty of space to write down your own notes on the different pathogens. Important key words and distinctive features are in bold face for easy reading. Even though they may not tell you med school that this book is 'required', from a student's perspective it is a 'must' - Customer review from Amazon.com.
