The Mammoth Major Mk III was announced in 1948 and remained in production for some twelve years until 1960 when it was superseded by the Mk V. Mammoth Majors are best known for their eight-wheelers which in the golden age of British lorries could claim to be kings of the road. However, Mammoth Majors also embraced six-wheelers and heavy-duty tractive units. The many high-quality archive photographs in this book show a wide range of Mammoth Major IIIs in the UK and overseas performing many transport duties and in various configurations. The text recounts in detail the full production history of the model and its variants. Appendices cover chassis identification, engine data and engine applications.
