"Achtung Swordfish" is the story of aircraft and the men who flew them from the decks of converted grain ships and oil tankers during the battle of the Atlantic, providing desperately needed protection from marauding U-boats. The aircraft they flew were obsolescent Fairy 'Swordfish', designed in the early '30s. These rugged biplanes and their crews flew from the wildly pitching decks of 'Macships', in all that the North Atlantic could throw at them including violent storms, mountainous seas and bitter cold, to fend off the attacks of German U-boats. That they succeeded was known to few and recognised by none, either during or after WWII. "Achtung Swordfish", is the compelling story of young men, flying outmoded aircraft against a well equipped and determined enemy, in the worst flying conditions in the world...and winning.
