Brentwood Baptist Church has been witnessing to the saving power of Jesus Christ in the middle of this Essex town for one hundred and twenty-five years. The first hundred years of the church was chronicled by Doreen Acton in "A History of Brentwood Baptist Church" published for the church's centenary celebrated in 1986. This account continues the inspiring story of the next quarter-century from 1985 to 2010, including the planting of Pilgrims Hatch Baptist Church and increasing ecumenical co-operation in evangelism. Doreen Acton has been a member of the church for 63 years, has served as a deacon and undertaken the role of church historian. Nigel Davey was a member for 35 years and in leadership as deacon, church secretary and elder for 25 years.
