If you take into account the huge changes that have taken place since my first paid job nearly fifty years ago, you will see it has been a time of unprecedented change. During this time we had massive social upheaval as well as unstoppable technological changes in our workplaces and at home. We witnessed the demise of many of our old industries, as well as the collapse of the High Street and the corner shop, and the relentless march of the supermarkets and out of town retail parks. We had the three day week, years of discontent, strikes in the mines, on the docks, in the car factories, all trying to save jobs and their communities. We had boom and bust economics, we suffered factory closures, redundancies, lock outs, the march for jobs, rebellious local councils - all of these things we went through. In this book I tell of a working life in such places as Garston Tannery, on beer wagons, Tizer wagons, the Mirror works, Fords, Evans Medical, Glaxo U.K, as an insurance man, at the International Garden Festival, at G.H.Lee, as a journalist, and finally as a Community worker. My last years working in the community of Garston have been my most productive and creative, how I fulfilled dreams by writing poetry, scripts for plays, as well as writing music, also by acting on stage and performing in musicals all after a cancer scare. It has been a long and winding road, with many twists and turns, and ups and downs. Looking back, I wouldn't have had it any other way.
