The Casual BBC - JK Rowling's novel coming to a TV near you...
JK Rowling's first novel for adults, The Casual Vacancy, is to be adapted for television.
The BBC have today announced that they have commissioned an adaptation of the Harry Potter author's controversial book, to air in 2014. Rowling, who is expected to work closely with the production team in bringing Pagford to the small screen, said she "always felt that, if it were to be adapted, this novel was best suited to television and I think the BBC is the perfect home."
Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC Drama said he was "thrilled to bring J.K. Rowling's extraordinary tapestry of modern Britain to the screen. It's a book of such richness that through humour, social commentary and above all fantastic characters, says something insightful and entertaining about the country we live in."
If you want to find out more about The Casual Vacancy, we reported on Rowling when she spoke about her novel earlier this year at the Cheltenham Festival.
