The Waterstones Children’s Book Prize champions new and emerging talent within three categories: illustrated books; fiction for ages 5-12; and teen books. Now in its 11th year, this year's shortlists seem to have a detective theme with six titles in which children are left to their own devices to solve mysteries, reminiscent of old favourites like Enid Blyton’s Famous Five and the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series.
