FT and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year 2013
Brad Stone's exposé of Jeff Bezos' Amazon.com has won this year's Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award.
Stone's book The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon takes a look at how Bezos built Amazon.com from an online bookshop to a global power in almost every retail and digital sector imaginable.
Editor of the Financial Times Lionel Barber called the book “A must-read for disrupters around the world”, adding that it "captures the culture of Amazon and the character of its founder Jeff Bezos."
Lloyd C. Blankfein, chairman and chief executive officer of The Goldman Sachs Group, described the winning book as "a provocative take on how Jeff Bezos and Amazon have transformed industries as varied as publishing, consumer electronics, and cloud computing.”
Indeed, the book has proved so provocative that the Amazon founder's wife, Mackenzie Bezos, felt moved to leave a one star review of the title on the online book store - which Stone in turn responded to in an article in Business Week.
The award, which sets out to recognise the book that provides ‘the most compelling and enjoyable insight into modern business issues’, comes with a £30,000 prize - which Mr Stone is free to spend at any retailer he chooses.
