Timur Vermes
A writer who revels in outrage and controversy, Timur Vermes is the German author of Look Who’s Back, a satire envisioning Hitler in the twenty-first century, and The Hungry and the Fat. A journalist whose work has appeared in many of Germany’s leading tabloids, Vermes moved into ghost writing in 2007 before publishing his debut novel, Look Who’s Back, in 2012. A blistering satire that confronted one of Germany’s most taboo subjects – Adolf Hitler – in a savagely comic fashion, the book drew an equal amount of plaudits and criticism. In 2016 it was adapted into a Netflix production. Vermes’s second novel, a similarly scabrous attack on governmental incompetence, the far-right and celebrity culture called The Hungry and the Fat, was published in 2020.
A vainglorious TV star and the realities of an African refugee camp collide in this satirical masterpiece from the author of Look Who’s Back.
