Steve Antony biography and information
In his own words, Steve Antony introduces himself...
I was born in Swindon and raised in the New Mexican desert. For as long as I can remember, I've always loved telling stories through pictures. I entered loads of art contests, and I even got to contribute a drawing to my High School yearbook. My family and I moved back to England in the mid-90s, and I graduated from Swindon College with a HND in Illustration in 1999. In order to pay off my student debts I started work in a call centre. I remained there for almost ten years in spite of all my creative endeavours. In 2010, I accepted voluntary redundancy to pursue my dream job by enrolling on the MA Children's Book Illustration course in Cambridge, and the rest, as they say, is history.
For me, the most exciting part of creating a picture book is the very start; when a new and inspiring idea sends me into a creative frenzy. I like to create stories that are humorous, with universal themes and engaging characters. I tend to stick to limited colour palettes in part because of my red-green colour-blindness, and I try to uniquely approach each book because, although they come from the same voice, they each have something different to say.
