Monisha Rajesh
Monisha Rajesh is a British travel writer and journalist.
Rajesh was born in Norfolk and studied journalism at City University. She has worked for the Week, and written for Time magazine, the New York Times, the Guardian and the Times, amongst others.
In 2010, Rajesh spent four months travelling around India by rail; she described her experiences in her debut book, Around India in 80 Trains (2012). It was followed by Around the World in 80 Trains in 2019, which maps her 45,000-mile adventure through global rail networks. Rajesh’s second book was selected as the Waterstones Non-fiction Book of the Month for May 2020.
A gloriously entertaining travelogue spanning the concourse at Kings Cross to the sky-scraping peaks of Tibet’s Qinghai railway, Around the World in 80 Trains is a warm and witty hymn to locomotive travel. Packed full of delightful pen portraits of fellow passengers and evocative descriptions of both trains and destinations, this is a charming, uplifting book.
