After graduating from university, Moriarty worked in advertising, running her own agency before becoming a successful freelance advertising copywriter. Inspired by the publication of her sister’s Young Adult novel, she enrolled on a Masters degree at Macquarie University in Sydney, penning what would become her debut novel Three Wishes (2004) as part of her course. Moriarty wrote three more taut domestic thrillers before her fifth novel The Husband’s Secret topped the New York Times bestseller list in 2013. Big Little Lies followed the next year and its addictive, character-led story of a murder at a school trivia night brought enormous sales and an HBO television adaptation produced by and starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. Her 2018 thriller Nine Perfect Strangers, about sinister goings-on at a wellness retreat, was also adapted for the small screen as well as being selected as Waterstones Thriller of the Month in April 2019.
From the author of bestselling phenomenon Big Little Lies comes a compelling novel of family and fate, as a mysterious old woman sows confusion and paranoia in the lives of a disparate group of individuals.
