Jane Harper is a bestselling British-Australian crime novelist.
Harper was born in Manchester and emigrated to Australia at the age of eight. She returned to the UK as a teenager and later studied English at the University of Kent. After graduation, she began a career in journalism.
Her debut novel, The Dry, was published in 2016. Featuring Detective Aaron Falk and set amidst an excruciating drought in an imaginary Australian town, The Dry was enthusiastically received and earned Harper the UK Crime Writers' Association's Gold Dagger Award. Another Aaron Falk thriller, Force of Nature, followed in 2017.
Harper’s third novel The Lost Man, a murder mystery set on a large cattle station in south-west Queensland, was shortlisted for the 2020 Theakston's Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award.
