Iain Banks

Author of the mind-blowing debut novel, The Wasp Factory, and creator of the Culture series (as Iain M. Banks) - who sadly passed away in 2013.

16/02/1954 - 09/06/2013

Scottish author Iain Banks, (or Iain M. Banks when writing Science Fiction), is popularly known for his first novel The Wasp Factory, published in 1984.

Known by legions of Science Fiction fans for creating the Culture Cycle series, Iain Banks could have made just as much of an impact on the publishing landscape if he'd stuck with writing mainstream Fiction. It's really very good. Sensational, darkly funny and often compulsively disturbing, a reader of Iain Banks is a happy reader.

In June 2013 Iain Banks died shortly after the announcement that he had terminal cancer. Fans and friends are able to leave their condolences on friends.banksophilia.com. We think we can safely say his books will stand the test of time.
