H. P. Lovecraft biography and information

  • H. P. Lovecraft was born on August 20, 1890, in Providence, Rhode Island.
  • He started out as a journalist in 1914 and then launched his own magazine The Conservative. He wrote a number of essays and pieces for the magazine but then became more serious about writing stories in 1917.
  • The horror magazine, Weird Tales, bought some of Lovecraft’s stories in 1923 which gave him his first stepping stone into the literary world.
  • His story, The Call of Cthulhu, came out in 1928 which introduced his readers to a genre of supernatural horror. Elements of this story would reappear in other related tales.
  • In his final years, he took editing and ghost writing work to try to make ends meet.

  • He died on March 15, 1937, in Providence, Rhode Island.

  • He is now one of the world's best known and bestselling horror writers.
