A master of revisionist retellings of classic children’s stories, Gregory Maguire is a bestselling American novelist and academic, who writes for both adult audiences and younger readers. He holds a PhD in English and American Literature from Tufts University and is a former professor and co-director at the Simmons College Center for the Study of Children's Literature. Maguire published his first novel, The Lightning Time, in 1978 and his first adult novel, Wicked (1995) rocketed him to international fame and was followed by three more books inspired by The Wizard of Oz: Son of a Witch (2005), A Lion Among Men (2008) and Out of Oz (2011).
