An award-winning writer for children, Francesca Simon is best-known as the creator of the infamous, mischief-making hero Horrid Henry but has written over fifty books for children of all ages. Born in California, Simon spent many years working as a freelance journalist, writing for publications including the Guardian, Sunday Times, Mail on Sunday and the Telegraph. She was inspired to write her first book by reading stories to her son and, in 1994, Horrid Henry made his first appearance in print, accompanied by iconic illustrations by Tony Ross. Her other works include Don’t Cook Cinderella and The Monstrous Child (for teen readers).
