Femi Fadugba

Born in Togo and spending his childhood in the United States, Fadugba came to Britain when he was nine and went on to study materials science at Oxford University. After returning to America to pursue his studies, he took a position back in Britain with a solar finance company and was selected as the ‘UK’s Best Black Student’ by Rare Rising Stars. His debut YA novel, The Upper World, was borne out of his friends’ desire to understand physics; Fadugba penned an emotionally arresting work that also discussed real scientific theory in an accessible way. The manuscript immediately created an enormous buzz, generating a 15-way publishing auction and being optioned by Netflix for film rights. Once published, The Upper World was also shortlisted for the 2022 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.
