Erin Morgenstern
One of the most distinctive and original voices in contemporary phantasmagorical fiction, Erin Morgenstern’s reputation rests squarely on her bestselling phenomenon The Night Circus. Inspired by works such as Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susannah Clarke and Christopher Priest’s The Prestige, Morgenstern’s debut traces the fortunes of a travelling circus in an alternate Victorian London. Originally drafted during the 2005 National Novel Writing Month – in which budding authors challenge themselves to write a 50,000 manuscript in the month of November – it was published to widespread acclaim in 2011 and rapidly became a bestseller. In addition to The Night Circus, Morgenstern has penned a number of online short stories known as Flax-Golden Tales, in collaboration with the photographer Carey Farrell. Morgenstern’s latest book is The Starless Sea, originally published in 2019.
