Claire North
Claire North is one of the pen names of the British novelist and children’s writer, Catherine Webb. A true polymath, Webb began writing as a teenager and had her first novel, Mirror Dreams, published when she was just fourteen. She published a further seven YA novels under her own name, earning two Carnegie Medal nominations for Timekeepers and The Extraordinary and Unusual Adventures of Horatio Lyle. She began an urban fantasy series under the name Kate Griffin whilst studying International History before turning her hand to working as a lighting technician at the Royal National Theatre.
Her first novel as Claire North, The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, was a huge favourite with Waterstones’ booksellers and was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke award for science fiction. She followed this up with Touch, The Sudden Appearance of Hope, The End of the Day – which was shortlisted for the 2017 Sunday Times/PFD Young Writer of the Year Award, and 84K and The Pursuit of William Abbey.
