Born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Caroline Kepnes studied at Brown University. After obtaining her degree in American Civilization, she went on to work as the entertainment reporter for Entertainment Weekly and as a script writer for TV shows such as 7th Heaven and The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
In 2014, Kepnes published her debut novel You – the first hypnotic instalment in a thriller series that has become a bestselling phenomenon and revolves around charismatic serial killer Joe Goldberg. In 2016 the second part Hidden Bodies followed, and two years later Kepnes released Providence – a standalone romance-suspense thriller with supernatural elements. In 2018, Kepnes also adapted You as a series for Netflix and has since continued the novel series with You Love Me (2021) and For You and You Only (2023).
