Benji Davies

Davies studied animation at university and went on to direct animated commercials, music promos and short films. He began to devote himself to children’s picture books after the success of his first publication The Storm Whale in 2013. The heartwarming story of a young boy’s friendship with a beached whale, the picture book spawned the sequel The Storm Whale in Winter (2016) as well as another tale from the same world, Grandma Bird (2018). Davies’ second picture book Grandad’s Island (2015) was a moving and ultimately uplifting treatment of grief and won Children’s Book of the Year at the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Awards. His other picture books include The Grotlyn (2017), Tad (2019) and The Snowflake (2020). In addition to his picture book work, Davies is also the illustrator of the hugely popular Bizzy Bear series of push-pull-and-slide board books for preschoolers.
